Review:

Luke Temple hails from Salem, OR, and his self-titled debut release is an enjoyable EP that ends up in a totally different area than you first expect. This is because the opening track B-Bird sounds like we're going to be firmly rooted in Pixies territory, as the intro is almost identical to that of Gigantic.

At that point, with Temple wearing an influence so openly on his sleeve, you're expecting an EP full of Frank-like shouting. But once the intro has finished, Temple adopts a more melodic approach, which continues throughout. Make It Right With You, perhaps the best of the four tracks here, is an altogether quieter acoustic thing. It brings Devendra Banhart to mind, although there's something of a 70's lilt to his voice.

This track is certainly more typical of the EP as a whole, although In The End also has an early-ish Radiohead feel about it. The final track, Painted Blue, meanwhile, opens with a Nick Drake-like intro, although vocally it shows a definite Jeff Buckley influence. But despite these references, the latter three tracks in particular show Temple finding his own musical identity.

Promising…
