This is the debut solo single for virtuoso vibraphonist William Shore. It's an enjoyable listen, although perhaps not for everyone. The use of vibraphone will make many people think of Tortoise, who use that instrument extensively, and indeed the music has a certain Tortoise-y-ness to it.

The A-side is the title track, and it is a flurry of vibraphone that cascades in layers, looped and echoing, the loops sometimes parting to reveal strange patterns, and sometimes joining in dense layers. Over about 6 minutes, the patterns ebb and flow in almost hypnotic waves. The effect is somewhere between Tortoise and the soundtrack to Akira.

On the B-side Shore adds in some kind of percussion, or perhaps computer manipulation. The first song is the groovy percussion dance pop song The Translator. Shore plays his vibraphone over ahh-ing vocal samples, clicking beats, and some deep bass droning. This is nice.

Components starts off with an ominous drone before a slippery old school techno beat comes in. This really grooves with a nice skipping beat under the bass drone, hand claps, and Shores's tinkling vibraphone. This reminds me of Fujiya and Miyagi in a way, that sort of jazzish dance rock. Nicely done.
